INTERNATIONAL CES, LAS VEGAS – Jan. 4, 2017

Connected security: a rapidly expanding market

Netatmo unveils two new products in its Security range: the Smart Smoke Alarm and the Indoor Security Siren.

Netatmo's Security range already includes Welcome, the indoor security camera with face recognition, and Presence, the outdoor security camera that detects and reports on people, cars and animals.

People worry about the security of their homes when they're away; it's a source of anxiety for 70% of English people[1]. They want solutions for monitoring and protecting their homes.

Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, connected home security devices make precise assessments of suspicious situations, such as detecting a break-in or the outbreak of fire. Unlike conventional security systems, which require human analysis, these Artificial Intelligence algorithms understand what is going on in the home, trigger the appropriate response and alert the user in real time.

With its extended Security range, Netatmo now offers a comprehensive system for home security.

The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm

Enhanced home security

If it detects smoke in the house, the Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm triggers an 85dB alarm and sends a real-time alert to the user's smartphone. The user receives a notification identifying the room in which the smoke was detected: "Smoke detected in the kitchen".

The user knows at once if there is smoke in their house. They can immediately contact a neighbour or the fire department, to stop the fire spreading; or escape if they’re in the house themselves.

The user can install as many Smoke Alarms as they want, and can access them from their Netatmo Security App. Each detector can be named on the basis of its location ("Kitchen Smoke Alarm" or "Kids' Bedroom Smoke Alarm" etc).

The 85dB signal, if triggered, can be switched off manually or from the App.

Long-life battery and self-check function

The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm is powered by a 10-year battery, which equates to the recommended service life of smoke detectors.

The long-life battery guarantees reliable operation for 10 years, so there's no risk of the Smoke Alarm's battery being flat when a fire breaks out. Before the Netatmo Smoke Alarm reaches the end of its recommended 10-year service life, it sends a notification to the user's smartphone reminding them to change it.

Thanks to its self-check function, the Smoke Alarm runs on-going checks to make sure it is working properly. It sends weekly reports that can be consulted on the App.

Compatible with HomeKit and IFTTT

The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm will be compatible with Apple HomeKit.

Apple HomeKit enables an array of connected devices in the home to collaborate with each other. The user controls their connected devices and can view their data via the Apple Home App and on the locked screen of their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

With HomeKit, the user can also create customised scenarios to connect their Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm to other smart home devices. For example, they’ll be able to connect their smart lighting to their Netatmo Smoke Alarm. The lights will turn on in the house if a fire is detected. The family will be alerted and will be able to leave the house quickly.

The user can activate these scenarios with a simple gesture on their Apple Home App.

The Smoke Alarm is also compatible with IFTTT, a platform that allows the user to connect hundreds of services together. With IFTTT, the user connects the data from their Netatmo Security App – which controls the Smoke Alarm – with other devices, Apps and services. The user can program customised rules or combinations of actions called "Recipes" to automate and control different aspects of their connected home. For example, they can receive an emergency call in the event of fire.

Installation and certifications

The Smoke Alarm is a wireless device and connects automatically to the home Wi-Fi network via the App. The installation is quick and easy: the Smoke Alarm just needs to be screwed to the wall or ceiling, following the installation recommendations included in the pack.

The Netatmo Smoke Alarm is CE and NF certified.

In compliance with the applicable regulations, a red LED flashes discreetly every 10 seconds to show that the Smoke Alarm is working properly. If it detects any smoke, it starts flashing more quickly.

The Netatmo Indoor Security Siren

Protection against intruders

With the unveiling of its Indoor Security Siren, Netatmo now offers a comprehensive home security system.

The Netatmo Indoor Security Siren is an accessory of Welcome, the indoor security camera with face recognition. The Siren operates with Welcome and the Netatmo Tags, the waterproof security sensors for doors and windows.

The Siren is automatically triggered if Welcome or the Tags detect an intruder. It sounds an ear-piercing 110 dB alarm.

The user receives a specific real-time notification on their smartphone – such as "Unknown face seen" or "Movement detected on garage door" – together with the video of the event filmed by Welcome.

Whether the user is home or not, the Security Siren is sounded when there's an intruder. The Siren can also be manually activated with a simple click from the user’s smartphone.

The Netatmo Security Siren keeps intruders away, even when the user is not home.

The Siren also has a tamper detection feature that detects vibrations and impacts. It sounds if an intruder tries to remove it or disable it.

Fully customisable parameters

The Siren’s triggers are entirely customisable from the Security App.

The user can program the Siren to sound when they're away, on the basis of different criteria: for example if Welcome sees an unknown face or a movement, or if the Tags detect that a specific door or window has been opened.

A range of pre-recorded audio messages can also be played from the App, such as "The police are on their way", to frighten away any unwanted visitors.

Compatibility with IFTTT

The Security Siren is compatible with the IFTTT service. This enables the user to program customised rules of action between their Security App and their other Apps.

For example, they can decide that the Siren rings if their connected flood sensor system detects a water leak.

Easy installation

The Security Siren is quick and easy to configure: it connects to the home Wi-Fi network via the Security App. Installed in the vicinity of Welcome, it communicates via Bluetooth Low Energy with the camera.

The Security Siren can be hardwired or battery-operated. The user can check the battery charge level from the App.

Netatmo: the connected security specialist

Netatmo already has two security cameras on the market: Welcome for indoor use and Presence for outdoor use. The Netatmo cameras’ Artificial Intelligence algorithms increase the users’ safety.

Welcome, the indoor security camera with face recognition, recognises the faces it sees. It sends the names of the people it has identified to the user's smartphone. The camera notifies the user exactly who is at home: their loved ones or a stranger.

With its breakthrough deep learning algorithm, Presence, the outdoor security camera, detects and reports on people, cars and animals. Placed outside the house, the camera analyses in real-time if someone loiters around the home, a car enters the driveway or a pet is in the yard. Presence understands what it sees and notifies the user if something is detected in the monitored area.

Availability and compatibility

The Smart Smoke Alarm and the Indoor Security Siren will be available in the second half of 2017. The Indoor Security Siren is an accessory of the Welcome camera.

The Netatmo Security App is entirely free. It is compatible with iPhones featuring iOS9, Android 4.3 and above.

The Netatmo Security App controls:

- Welcome, the indoor security camera with face recognition

- Presence, the outdoor security camera that detects and reports on people, cars and animals

- The Tags, Netatmo's waterproof security sensors for doors and windows

- The Smart Smoke Alarm, that triggers an alarm and delivers real-time alerts to the user’s smartphone when it detects smoke in the house

- The Indoor Security Siren, that protects the home against intruders

The Netatmo web-app is available for Mac and PC.
