PRESS RELEASE

O2 has become the only UK network to launch a free screen replacement for customers buying the latest handsets from 8 September 2017.

The new service will mean customers who drop their prized handsets will be able to get the screen replaced once during the 24 months of their contract – ensuring they keep that ‘new phone feeling’ even if they accidentally damage the screen.

Free screen replacements are available exclusively from O2 for the latest handsets on selected tariffs*. The launch comes as research commissioned by O2 has revealed that up to 51% of smartphone owners across the UK have cracked the screen of their handset at least once – and that up to 7.5 million people** in the UK have a phone with a screen in need of TLC at any given time.

To make their replacement claim customers simply need to call Pay Monthly customer service. The next day courier service will collect the handset with the cracked screen and provide a replacement device, ensuring pain free screen replacements.

Nina Bibby, Chief Marketing Officer at O2 said:

“A customer’s phone is much more than just a phone – it’s how they share every experience, connecting them to the people and things that they love. So we also know how frustrating a cracked screen can be.”

“We know that cost can put customers off getting their handsets fixed – and that they don’t always trust some of the outlets offering cut-price repairs. So, we’re launching free screen replacements to fix both of those problems as quickly and easily as possible for our customers.”

** The adult population who own smartphones is 48 million.  51% of these (24 million) have broken their screens.  At any one given time, 31% of that 24 million are walking around with a cracked screen (7.5 million)
