Thin is in for 2008, as far as LCD TVs are concerned. Samsung demonstrated a 52in panel which was just under an inch deep whilst Sharp went one better with its prototype 65in display that boasted some impressive specs.

Imbued with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio thanks to LED-based technology, the large set was able to produce 150 per cent of the NTSC colour gamut, providing richer, deeper-looking colours. Most current displays to tend hover between 75-115 per cent, depending upon manufacturer and technology used.

The Sharp measures just 20mm thick with respect to the main display section. It bulges around to 35mm at the thickest part, which is still considerably less than most LCD/PDP TVs today.

No word on pricing for either set, and we expect to see them hit the market in early 2009.

Thinner screens are great.

Pioneer “Project Kuro” plasma takes the cake at 9mm. Granted, LCDs and plasma have slightly different markets.
Project Kuro was the extreme contrast prototype Pioneer showed off, this isn't the same as the 9mm panel they demoed, I can't remember the name of it.

The 9mm Pioneer in incredibly impressive, especially because plasmas are generally thicker than LCDs.

The 9mm one was Project Kuro. It was a handmade panel.

And this link seems to think they are the one and the same as the infinite contrast one.

Looking back at it, it seems many sites covering this topic are confused over which is which and whether there are two models demoed or only one.

Ill have a look over at AVForums and try to figure it out.
