Microsoft has started to make its Surface Pro 3 hybrid available in many more countries around the world following its initial availability in North America. We are told that people who pre-ordered the Surface Pro 3 will have their devices shipped from today. I've had a quick check here in the UK and the Surface Pro 3 does appear in listings in various retailers' online stores as well as online in the UK Microsoft Store.

The countries where the Surface Pro 3 is now available include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Five configurations of the Surface Pro 3 are available in the above countries and these include options with various processors from the Intel Core i3 to the i7 and varying amounts of RAM and SSD storage. I've made a list of the configurations available below, alongside the UK prices which include VAT and free shipping (and free returns).

  • Core i3, 64GB, 4GB RAM - £639
  • Core i5, 128GB, 4GB RAM - £849
  • Core i5, 256GB, 8GB RAM - £1,109
  • Core i7, 256GB, 8GB RAM - £1,339
  • Core i7, 512GB, 8GB RAM - £1,649

In the box you will receive a Surface Pro 3, a Surface Pen, a 36-watt power supply, a Quick Start Guide and Safety and warranty documents. Most buyers will also want a keyboard such as the Surface Pro 3 Type Cover which is an additional £109.99 in the UK.

Another accessory which may be essential or at least appealing to some is the recently announced Surface Pro 3 Docking Station. This is available for pre-order in all 28 markets and is scheduled for general availability on 12th September. The dock is said by Microsoft to transform your Surface from the "tablet that can replace your laptop" to the "tablet that can replace your laptop and your desktop PC."

Overheating update

Further to our story about the Surface Pro 3 overheating complaints from users Microsoft has promised to bring a fix soon, to the "very small number" of devices affected. Paul Thurrott expects the update to be available "on or before the next Patch Tuesday, which is September 9".

Yay for the UK economy jacknifing the price at almost an extra 50-60% over the price in other countries!
lmao, the cheapest model is £639, plus another £100 for keyboard.

Suppose i'll have to wait til they get realistic, and reduce the price. I'll hang on to my old tablets until that happens…. Shame really.
So in Singapore stock of the i7 is…. Almost impossible!

Think I'll have to order one from MS directly, but that is difficult as of course the card is not bound to my address here….
Does it run Linux? At that price it should be able to run whatever I throw at it. Otherwise not interested at all.

Yes it does, which a quick google would have told you.

Plus you can always just turn on hyper-v and run whatever you want. The issue is the digitiser support in linux is piss poor.
