Building a PC usually starts as a sensible affair; it's a way to obtain a high-performance machine while avoiding the premiums attached to turnkey solutions. Lose sight of that goal, however, and it becomes quite easy to slip into the red with premium components that make a serious dent in the overall budget.

There's no shortage of temptation, that's for sure. These days a CPU cooler can set you back over £100, a quad-channel kit of DDR4 doesn't come cheap, we're all well aware of spiralling GPU costs, and heck, if you want the very best CPU, you may want to set aside the best part of two grand.

Such purchases tend to come with bragging rights aplenty, but in your experience has the cost been worth it? To find out, we're asking: what's the most you've spent on a single PC component? Let us know the part, the price you paid, and whether or not there's any regret.

Nothing crazy, about 300quid on my i7 cpu
Think it has to be EVGA GTX 1070 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0

Don't think I could warrant spending any more on a single component than a gaming gpu, and that take the pish as it is!
£575 on a GPU.

5 years later it's still good enough and equivalent to an RX480.
£148 on a sapphire x800 GTO2.
Wrecked it 3 weeks later when i slipped with a screwdriver whilst installing an arctic cooler :wallbash:
£1200 on a Pascal Titan X
