Gigabyte and MSI announce new Skylake powered gaming laptops

Hot on the heels of Intel's announcement of its new range of Skylake processors, both Gigabyte and MSI have announced that they will be updating their gaming laptop ranges.

Gigabyte says that its 17-inch P57 and 15-inch P55 performance laptops, its 17-inch P37, 15-inch P35, and 14-inch P34 gaming laptops and its 17-inch P17 and 15-inch P15 budget gaming laptops will all be updated to the latest Intel processors. The laptops already feature graphics cards ranging from Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M, 970M, and 965M, to 950M.

Additionally, the gaming series includes "Industry leading storage M.2 PCIe SSD, latest DDR4 with faster frequency and a lower power demand, USB 3.1 with Type-C connectors for even more convenient I/O connectivity, and finally the upgraded HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 providing a super smooth true 4K visual experience".

MSI has updated its ultra-powerful GT72 Dominator Pro G with NVIDIA G-Sync technology; the ultra-slim and lightweight GS70 Stealth and GS60 Ghost; and the balanced performance GE62 and GE72 Apache Pro gaming laptops with new Intel Skylake processors. In an email to HEXUS, MSI claims that the upgrade helps to minimise energy consumption "resulting in an increase of up to 30% performance power when overclocked. (Core i7 6820HK - compared to 4th gen. processor)".

Availability of the refreshed MSI range, with these latest mobile Intel 6th Generation Core i7 processors equipped, is expected from 27th September onwards. They will come with Windows 10 pre-installed, SABRE Hi-Fi Audio DAC audio, DDR4 Memory and other as yet unannounced modern features.

MSI motherboards

MSI also announced two new ranges of motherboards. Today it launched its new business orientated Intel Skylake 100-series based PRO Series motherboards. There are 30 models available featuring H170/B150 and H110 chipsets. Form factors range from Mini-ITX to ATX and they are all Windows 10 certified.

For gamers MSI today launched an 'arsenal' of new H170/B150 Skylake based GAMING motherboards. These motherboards have the usual gaming frills such as LEDs, Gaming LAN, Steel Armour, overclocking and tweaking facilities and Nahimic audio. There are nine new gaming additions in all.
