Asus has announced its latest 4K gaming display. Released under its central brand rather, than a gaming sub-brand like RoG, the new VP28UQG sports a 28-inch TN film panel with a fast grey-to-grey response time of just 1ms. As a gaming monitor it is claimed to be FreeSync (Adaptive Sync) compatible and there are gamer-friendly 'Asus GamePlus' features such as OSD crosshairs, frame-rate counters, and game genre-specific display presets.

The Asus VP28UQG offers a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. If you use a compatible graphics card the variable refresh can smoothly wind down to 40Hz as necessary, minimising screen tearing or choppiness. Other key specs are support for 10-bit colour, a maximum brightness of 300cd/m², and 1000:1 static contrast-ratio.

For eye comfort the new monitor features the increasingly familiar flicker-free and low blue light technologies. Various colour preset modes are available including 8x Asus Splendid video presets, 3 skin tone modes, and 4 colour temperature presets. You control the monitor and select presets via the OSD and 5-way joystick. TÜV Rheinland laboratories have certified this monitor for ergonomics and performance.

Asus claims it has supplied a robust set of inputs in the VP28UQG. Users can connect and enjoy up to native 4K UHD visuals and 60Hz refresh rate via DisplayPort 1.2a or HDMI v 2.0 (x2). There are no integrated speakers but the monitor includes a 3.5mm jack to pass through audio from HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. The basic monitor stand provided allows only for tilt (-5°~+20°) but at least it's detachable and users can make use of the VESA 100x100mm mounts.

We don't have any pricing or availability information but expect this to be a budget 4K offering.
