BenQ has become one of the first companies to launch a 24-inch monitor with a QHD resolution, the BL2420PT. As Tom's Hardware notes, it's quite easy to find this 2560 x 1440 pixel screen in 27-inch monitors (and above), laptops and smartphones, for example, but until now desktop monitors of around 24-inches have not been available in this res. A QHD resolution offers 77 per cent more workspace than a 1920x1080 FHD display. The BL2420PT uses an ultra vivid IPS type panel and offers 100 per cent sRGB "ultra-precise colour rendition," says BenQ.

This 'Professional Monitor' is aimed at professionals in CAD/CAM, animation, video editing and graphic arts. CAD/CAM users might be happy to hear this monitor is Solidworks Certified. It also has a built-in CAD/CAM mode which alters the monitor colour and contrast profiles "for clearly distinguished details in complicated object wireframes".

Animation mode offers 10-step adjustment to reveal details in darkened areas while animators edit their creations. Video editors will appreciate the large workspace and REC. 709 colour space which covers the gamut of HDTVs.

Another interesting aspect of this monitor is that the supplied Display Pilot software offers tailored settings depending on what app it sees launched. Display Pilot also offers desktop partitioning and many of the usual OSD settings through its software interface.

As a 'pro' monitor the BL2420PT takes in workplace ergonomic considerations and thus you have access to height, tilt, pivot, stroke and swivel (or you can VESA mount it). BenQ also implements its eye friendly flicker-free and low blue light modes to allow users to work on these monitors for extended periods with less fatigue.

The following connectors are present: D-sub / DVI-DL / DP1.2 / HDMI1.4 / headphone jack / line in, USB 2.0 hub, VESA wall mount. The monitor includes a pair of 1W speakers. Unfortunately we don't have any info about this monitor's release date or pricing.

This would be good if it wasn't likely to be stupidly expensive. We need more <27' 1440p screens.

…. I'd say you're pretty much guaranteed to be right.

Shame, because while the spec appeals to me, a ‘pro’ price tag does not. These days, I have neither the need nor justification. But, while I won't be holding my breath, I'll keep one eye on the pricing info, just in case.

Nevermind 1440p, I've been waiting for a bargain on a 27 foot monitor for years.

For some reason I couldn't help but think of ‘ This is Spinal Tap’ when I read this. lol
It is good to see higher resolutions come to reasonable desktop monitor sizes, it's annoying that the most powerful platform has had to deal with lower PPI monitor options. I would like smoother lines and sharper images on my computer as well as my phone…

I'd prefer 2560x1600 though, I think it is better to use in terms of how it fills my field of view and the extra vertical space. Portrait mode fits full page documents on it better as well.
