What does BFG stand for?

SB: Do you think that NVIDIA has taken its foot off the gas while AMD/ATI has been struggling?

GB: If I know their strategy at all then definitely not.

SB: Are you worried about the threat improved integrated graphics poses the discrete market?

GB: As long as high-definition content continues to evolve and the industry continues to innovate, I think it's safe to say that the discrete graphics market will continue to be strong for years to come. For a more comprehensive answer to that question I have also consulted BFG product specialist Michael Grey.

MG: Integrated graphic processors will continue to have a difficult time threatening even entry level discrete graphics due to ongoing limitations including space, power, thermal and time to market. As such, I believe that the demand for discrete graphics will continue to be strong for the foreseeable future especially in light of Intel having set its sights set on entering the discrete graphics market to compete with NVIDIA and ATI/AMD.

SB: What about the growth in popularity of UMPCs, are you worried that will reduce demand for full PCs and thus graphics cards?

MG: As far as UMPC's are concerned, they excel at day-to-day tasks and are ideal for individuals constantly on the go, sort of like a PDA on steroids. However, I believe that most consumers will still need a fully featured performance PC in the long run and thus rely on either a desktop or laptop (both of which may be outfitted with discrete graphics, depending on design) to be the hub of their digital experience.

SB: What’s in the pipeline from NVIDIA?

GB: Everyone knows what’s on the way but unfortunately I can’t comment on any of it yet. A BFG product I’m excited about right now is the 8800 GTS OC2 WC 512MB. Also 3-way SLI, which allows you to run three GTX or Ultras at once and get the best possible graphics set up available.

SB: Finally, what does BFG stand for?

GB: Big Fucking Gun.

SB: Thank you very much.
