Tech lifts the gloom
The last time we looked at the markets, Microsoft had just walked away from Yahoo! leading to a predictable big drop in the latter's share price.
Since then Yahoo! has recovered nearly all of its pre 5th May price amid hopes that Microsoft is still interested in buying at least part of the company and further pressure on the Yahoo! board from shareholder activist Carl Icahn.
Yahoo! isn't the only tech company to buck the overall trend of market decline. Dell's renaissance is reflected in a nearly 12 percent rise in its share price, while AMD's proactivity has been rewarded by the markets. Tellingly, all the disties have gone up too.
Not doing quite so well are a quartet of big guns: Google, HP, Intel and Microsoft, but their falls have been small.
AMD and NVIDIA both have announcements in store for next week's Computex show, from which HEXUS will be reporting, so we may see some market activity as a result of those.
Aside from Computex, rumours still abound that Microsoft is going to make its next move in the Microhoo saga soon so that's still one to keep an eye on.
