November

The momentum around Qualcomm continued into November as it was announced that the first smartbook - running on the Snapdragon SoC - would be unveiled by Lenovo at next year's CES. Qualcomm celebrated by showing-off a bunch of innovations, including a chipset that offers both 3G and LTE connectivity.

Smartphone developments this month included the long-anticipated launch of Nokia's latest high-end smartphone, the arrival of HTC's Snapdragon-based HD2 and Tesco joining the iPhone party. ARM added to the momentum behind Google's Android OS and Google itself moved to further strengthen its position in the mobile market by buying a display advertising company.

All European telco companies became bound by a new set of rules from the European Commission this month, but the highlight for HEXUS.channel was a visit to the cleanroom inside GlobalFoundries' Dresden fab.

Intel and AMD finally ended their legal marathon when Intel offered to write a cheque for $1.25 billion. Meanwhile HP moved to counter Cisco's year-long aggressiveness buy getting into the networking business itself through the acquisition of 3Com.
