Speedtesters and 50Mb
- The accuracy of any web-based speedtester will inevitably be constrained due to the reasons above, and erroneous results are amplified when speeds get even faster. If payloads are already too small to give accurate readings for speeds to 20Mb, the error margin on 50Mb is amplified.
- Speedtest sites will need to accommodate for an increase in bandwidth in order to cope with measuring high speeds. This increases bandwidth cost for the speedtest site, thus some sites produce erroneous results as a result of lack of available bandwidth (upstream speed or bandwidth allowance).
- The only accurate way to test access speed on 50Mb at the moment is to use a speedtest embedded within the Virgin Media network - this eliminates a number of issues - payload size, routing and internet congestion, bandwidth costs, and gives a truer picture of actual throughput.
