According to the Intel website, Gregory Ofili is the marketing manager for Intel’s WiMAX program office and vice chair of the marketing working group for the WiMAX forum. He’s also one of Intel’s 'official' bloggers (whatever a 'blogger' is).

Yesterday he wrote a short entry, apparently in response to some Gartner research on the WiMAX market published on 11th July, and it doesn’t look like he was too happy with its findings.

Ofili starts by saying: “The most recent attempt at ‘drive by kneecapping’ is from Gartner.” He goes on to fume: “The ‘analysis’ by Phil Redman of Gartner, is so thoroughly devoid of reality, it leaves me uncertain where to begin to debunk it.”

He appeared to be writing in response to a document entitled “First WiMAX World Congress Draws Global Support But Challenges Remain,” which finds among its key findings: “WiMAX proponents promote first-mover advantages over Long Term Evolution (LTE), which isn't fully ratified. Many WiMAX advocates believe ‘if you build it, they will come,’ and have done little to create an application development and solutions environment.”

Ofili warms to his theme by saying: “Since Gartner’s entire argument hinges on the belief that only the LTE fairy can conjure up dual mode handsets, then I suggest an intrepid team of investigators from Gartner should be dispatched to Asia, post haste, in order to confirm the existence of numerous WiMAX dual mode handsets.”
