See for yourself
ViewSonic, the US company best known for making displays, has been trying to grab a piece of the PC pie for a little while now. From the start we've thought this a bold move, with the market being so mature and dominated by the big OEMs.
It is especially difficult to differentiate on specs in the netbook space, with most machines running on pretty similar platforms, so ViewSonic is looking to the channel for its unique selling points.
This latest move takes the form of a ‘Buy and Try' programme, in which ViewSonic offers full refunds to people who buy selected ViewSonic products and return them within 30 days. Looking at the terms and conditions of the scheme, the process looks reasonably straight-forward, although you do have to wait a couple of months to get your cash back.
"Contrary to what some other manufacturers will promote, we believe choosing IT needs to be a highly personal experience and not a commodity purchase. We want to give our customers the opportunity to see how our products fit into their lifestyle, rather than ask them to gamble on making a decision based on whatever information is thrown at them at that time." said James Coulson, European marketing manager at ViewSonic.
