The mystery of why Bhavesh Patel (pictured below), the former commercial director at broad-line distributor Ingram Micro, resigned after 17 years at the company earlier this year has been solved.

He has followed what many consider to be a seismic shift away from desktop PCs and towards mobile handsets by joining mobile phone distributor 20:20 Mobile.

While we've yet to speak to Patel in person, the move was confirmed when we were put through to his PA at 20:20. He is expected to perform a similar role at there as he did at Ingram, with a particular emphasis on the convergence between the IT and telco channels.

20:20 mobile was formed when the Caudwell group was split up and sold to private equity. The retail arm - Phones4u - went to a US based firm and the distribution arm was bought by UK based Doughty Hanson.
