Heightened security

Security software company Kaspersky Lab has announced the appointment of Gem as a new distributor. Gem is one of the largest UK distributors in the retail channel, with particular strength in software, so appointing it as a distributor represents a clear statement of intent.

The security software sector is considered relatively recession proof as threats are becoming, if anything, more common and sophisticated. An example of this is the recent conficker scare, which Kaspersky senior researcher Ram Herkanaidu spoke exclusively to HEXUS.channel about last month.

Simon Geach, consumer sales director at Kaspersky UK, said: "We already have a strong foothold in the retail sector and through this partnership with Gem we will further increase product availability for partners in the UK and grow market share for our home user technology products."

Darren Houghton, sales director at Gem, added: "By distributing Kaspersky Lab's home user products we are able to offer our retail customers the opportunity to stock an all-in-one security solution, that meets their consumer's anxieties about keeping themselves and their families safe from the threat of cybercrime."
