Enterprising move

Multinational broad-line distributor Ingram Micro has announced it will be acquiring Computacenter Distribution (CCD), a UK distributor specialising in servers, storage and other enterprise computing products. It's expected to be completed within weeks and Ingram hasn't said what it paid for CCD.

"We've been building an infrastructure solutions practice for two years and in multiple countries, primarily through a Greenfield approach," Spierkel said. "This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to developing this capability in Europe."

"CCD is the leading distributor of mid-tier enterprise products in the important UK market, with a respected 22-year history and long-standing relationships with its customers. Through this acquisition, we have a platform for expansion into new vendor lines and customer segments, along with a thriving services business. This is an exciting step in the further development of our company, providing an opportunity to share new capabilities with our operations in EMEA."

CCD's 40 employees will join the UK operations of Ingram Micro. CCD's General Manager Jon Bunyard will report to Matt Sanderson, the new MD of Ingram Micro UK.

It would be interesting to know what Lee Perkins, the UK country manager of Ingram's big rival - Computer 2000 - thinks of this acquisition. He joined C2000 from, you guessed it, CCD a year ago.
