Thecus has expanded its range of Enterprise-orientated rackmount NAS devices with the launch of the N8800.

The N8800, pictured below, boasts "blazing-fast performance" and is housed in a 2U unit that provides room for eight SATA hard disk bays and a total certified storage capacity of 8TB. If that doesn't meet your needs, five N8800s can be stacked together and managed via a master system.

On the inside, users will find an Intel Celeron processor and 1GB of DDR2 memory are powering the unit. The specification may sound familiar, and that's because it's essentially an N7700 in a 2U shell. With more room to manoeuvre, Thecus has squeezed in an additional drive bay, bringing the total to eight and hence the N8800 name.

There's support for a variety of RAID modes, including RAID 0, 1, 5,6,10, and JBOD, as well as hot-spare, hot-swap and auto-rebuild functionality.

The Thecus N8800 is available to pre-order from Scan.co.uk at a cost of £1,507, and further product information can be found at Thecus.com.

I wish Nas solutions weren't so expensive i would really like to have one!
They're not necessarily expensive, but they scale from what's essentially a USB disk with an ethernet port to things bigger than the N8800. You just need to choose what features you need.
i think its the line between need and want that is my problem :)
I would love th be able to have a bit of kit like this in our central network….
mmmmmm lovely!

One of these would be sweet, although at that price I would build my own if it was for personal use. For the enterprise, that is probably about right though.
