New Nehalem
Chip giant Intel has previewed a new Xeon server processor, each one of which will have up to eight double threaded cores.
Codenamed ‘Nehalem-EX', Intel is claiming it represents the highest ever increase in performance from a previous generation processor, just as it did with the Xeon 5500.
This time, Intel's comparing the Nehalem-EX to the Xeon 7400 processor. Here's a slide summarising some of the performance increases Intel is claiming.
While asserting that it expects more than half of all dual processor server shipments to feature the Xeon 5500 by August of this year, Intel positioned the Nehalem-EX in the multi processor market and said it can scale up tp eight processor systems.
