Tentacled tipster

A psychic octopus called Ollie has picked this Christmas' best selling gifts including predicting that Sony's PlayStation Move peripheral will trump Microsoft's Kinect offering.

Before doubting the octopus' prophetic potential, it is worth bearing in mind that the tentacled tipster is none other than Paul the Octopus' cousin- the cephalopod that made all the World Cup predictions this summer then sadly passed away.

Price comparison site Kelkoo enlisted the help of Ollie (who is also The Sun's football tipster) to pick between 2 boxes both containing his favourite mackerel snack and representing two rival Christmas big hitters- such as Nokia's N8 and Apple's iPhone or the iPad versus Galaxy Tab.

In the battle of the tablets, while Samsung's Galaxy tab has been heralded by some commentators as the only viable rival to Apple's successful iPad, the octopus has sided with Steve Jobs, predicting the iPad will continue to dominate this Christmas, although stopping short of ranting that 7 inch tablets will be ‘dead on arrival,' like Apple's CEO.

A recent Kelkoo survey also agrees with Ollie as two thirds of people said they would opt for an iPad if choosing a tablet, while 15 percent would choose a Galaxy Tab and 11 percent the eagerly anticipated RIM Playbook.

Meanwhile in a more controversial prediction, Ollie has chosen Sony's Paystation Move as the most successful console peripheral this Christmas, despite most pundits tipping Microsoft's Kinect for huge success.
