What's in a name?

Gigabyte has gone big on netbooks at this year's COMPUTEX, but the new arrival could add further confusion to the already blurred definition of a netbook, especially since Gigabyte prefers to call its trio of 10.1 inch Intel Atom based PCs "small notebooks".

The S1024 Myou is being positioned as a ‘thin-and-light' but we've come to associate that term with notebooks using AMD's Yukon or Intel's CULV platforms. The Myou runs on an Atom CPU, so by popular definition it's technically a netbook.

Semantics aside, it is both thin and light, so fair enough. The Myou is 2cm thick and weighs 900 grams with a six cell battery. Like all the netbooks on the Gigabyte stand it claims to be 3.5G ready, and has a choice of 60GB or 80GB 4200rpm PATA HDD.

Gigabyte told us the Myou will be launching globally in July/August.
