LCD TVs manufactured in China are experiencing a high ratio of failure as a result of what appears to be faulty aluminium electrolytic capacitors.

The news, reported by Chinese-newspaper DigiTimes, states that Chinese-branded LCDs, and displays manufactured in China for overseas companies, have been experiencing factory-specific problems.

According to DigiTimes' sources, some LCD TVs have already been recalled, but the number of TVs affected remains unknown.

The problem is thought to be the aluminium electrolytic capacitors used on internal controller boards. Some manufacturers are said to have opted for cheaper aluminium capacitors which are prone to vaporising - resulting in an unclear image, or no image at all. LCD TVs using the faulty component are said to have been shipping for less than one year.

If you've purchased a Chinese-manufactured LCD in the past 12 months, we'd suggest you check to ensure it hasn't vaporised.

I was in a pub a couple of weeks ago having a meal, there was a TV on the wall nearby.

As I was about to leave I heard a capacitor pop and the thing was broked. I hope I'm not going to become accustomed to that sound.
