So if the Ultra's doing so well, why launch another? Won't the Mino eat into sales of the Ultra?  "It was launched in the US three months ago and sales of the Ultra are still growing," said Sangster. "For some, using normal, replaceable batteries is attractive. The built-in battery is what has allowed us to make the Mino smaller."

The Mino appears to be designed more for the kind of exhibitionist user who likes to take video and then publish it on the web, usually via YouTube or some kind of social networking site, immediately. It connects to the PC via built-in USB and recharges while it's downloading the video.

The Mino is being offered to the UK before the rest of Europe. The Ultra has been available to the UK channel since last may exclusively through distributor Gem, who will also offer the Mino. We asked Gem marketing manager Neil Handa how the product had performed for Gem.

"Its introduction created a completely new category for an affordable, every day use portable video camera," said Handa.  "After performing exceptionally well in the US, its success and brand recognition has translated well to the UK with it being stocked by leading major high street retailers and etail businesses."

Our chat with Sangster concluded with him claiming "Many journalists are using the product professionally." So we asked for a review unit and this journalist will bring you a video review of the Flip Mino shortly. Watch this space.
