Skype has announced the next phase of its partnership with the social networking site Facebook, confirming that users of its VOIP service can now make Facebook-to-Facebook calls from within Skype.

Skype members can currently use the video chat service, which launched in July, to communicate with Facebook users, but only if both parties are logged into the social networking site. The new update now synchs your Facebook friend’s list with Skype allowing you to call them from within the Skype dashboard.

“Initiating a Facebook-to-Facebook call from within Skype is quite easy; all you need to do is connect your Skype and Facebook accounts. Then, select a Facebook friend and hit the video call button in Skype- your friend simply picks up the call from Facebook,” explains Skype’s Rick Ostoh in a blog post.

The update comes with a fresh new look for the Skype dashboard showing which of your Facebook friend's are online and all the latest status updates. With over 600 million registered Skype members and over 800 million active users on Facebook, Skype is hoping that it’ll also bag some new customers from the partnership.

“We are on a mission to connect over one billion people and our continued partnership with Facebook brings us one step closer to this goal,” said Ostoh.
