Facebook goes app crazy

Facebook has relaunched its Timeline Apps platform with 60 new ‘lifestyle’ applications that cover a whole range of subjects from shopping and fitness to travel and food.

Written using its updated Open Graph application programming interface (API), Timeline allows users of the social-networking platform to automatically share details of their hobbies and activities via apps designed by companies such as eBay, Rotten Tomatoes and Trip Advisor.

"Soon, there will be apps for all types of interests, as more apps will launch over time" enthuses director of platform products, Carl Sjogreen. "Whether you love snowboarding, gardening, hiking, or knitting, or something else, there will be an app for you"

To see how it works, check out the video below:

Timeline will be rolled out later this week and will be a mandatory upgrade for all Facebook users. Developers looking to get a slice of the action and integrate their services with Timeline can find more information here.
