Up Close - Internal

With so much connectivity and features in such a slender device I had to crack it open and take a look and it was quite a surprise to still see so much space in there.

Before I go into the technicalities of the insides there was one thing I had noticed. The top-mounted control buttons and very little internal support structure mean it's definitely not for those who plan to put their DVD player in the middle of a stack of media equipment.

In the back-right of the chassis, we find the PCB containing the decoders and controllers for the DV-100B.

At the heart of it is the ESS Technologies Vibratto II DVD processor, a highly integrated single-chip solution that provides the Servo Control, Progressive Scan, MPEG-4, DVD Audio and TV Encoder.

The card reader on the front is a simple affair, powered by the Genesys Logic GL816 Multi-interface Flash Card Reader controller chip.
