Software for the iPod

iTunes v4 is the software on Macs that is resposible for playing songs, writing audio CDs and uploading songs to the iPod while a version of iTunes for Windows will be released sometime in June 2003.  As this review has been conducted with iTunes 4 I can not comment on MusicMatch, which is the software used in Windows.

Battery Life

To charge the battery one must either connect the Firewire end into a Firewire port or into the supplied power supply.  When it is seated in the Dock or connected to the Dock connector, charging begins and the charging activity is displayed on screen by a simple animation. If the iPod is seated in the dock, and the dock is connected to the Firewire port, synchronisation automatically takes place between iTunes and the iPod.

Charging in the dock takes 1 hour to reach 80% and 4 hours to reach a full 100% charge.  To test the battery life I connected the iPod to my JBL Creatures via the line-out that is located at the rear of the dock, and it played for over 9 hours, but it would be closer to 8 hours with light use of the backlight.

The image below shows the battery used in the new iPods (black) and the big white one used in the older iPods. Property of iPoding.com
