SNES classic now on a handheld

For us SNES import owners, ie, Nintendo geeks, Chrono Trigger was as an essential purchase as Zelda, Mario Kart and Super Mario World, it really was a no brainer. The tough thing was that you either needed an import machine or an import adapter cartridge…. But either way you were laughing if you sorted it as Chrono Trigger was simply brilliant.

You played the part of Crono, travelling through time to try and avert the end of the world. When a newly developed teleportation device malfunctions at the Millennial Fair, Crono must travel through time to rescue his companion from a load of past and present perils. In the story that follows you discover an evil force is set to destroy the world, triggering Crono's race against time to change the course of history and save the future.

The cool thing was that stuff you did in one time would have an effect on the past, present and future… which back in 1995 was some mind-bending stuff. According to Square Enix, this all-new edition of Chrono Trigger contains all the classic essence of the original while introducing the portability, dual-screen presentation and Touch-Screen functionality of the Nintendo DS.

Other features include multiple conclusions to the story, musical score by Yasunori Mitsuda, a new combat system based on a combination of the Active Time Battle system and Tech skills, character design by Akira Toriyama, a brand new dungeon and finally there’s a DS Wireless Play mode just to top off all the extra new goodies.
