Wa Wa Wee Waa!
One of the games that we've been dying to get our hands-on at the Games Convention this year is the next instalment in the explosive Call of Duty series, Call of Duty World At War.
We'll be getting down and dirty with Activision's shooter later in the week, but in the build up to that event, we thought we'd fill you in on what we know already about the latest game in this blockbuster franchise.
The game engine in Call of Duty World At War will be an enhanced version of the one that was used to great effect in Call of Duty 4. so we're expecting to see even better visuals than before. Is that even possible?
Furthermore, the enhancements to the game engine mean that developer, Treyarch, has been able to employ elements like fire to affect the dynamics of the battlefield and make weapons feel more powerful and have more impact on the game, for example, a flamethrower will allow players to burn away the environment, leaving it charred.
The action is set in World War II in the lead up to the demise of the Axis powers on the European and South Pacific fronts, so we can expect to see the likes of Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning cover tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action throughout.
For the first time in the series, co-op mode has been introduced allowing for four players or two-player local split-screen to group together through the single player campaign and take part in the missions. Alongside this mode will run a traditional multiplayer mode, which will come complete with rankings and online stats, as well as a more complete party system that will allow an intimacy with squad based combat never before seen in Call of Duty. We can't wait to find out exactly what that means! Furthermore, the online component will also include infantry and vehicle missions.
We'll be going hands-on with Call of Duty World At War later in the week, but in the meantime, check out these screenshots which are fresh off the press today. Wa Wa Wee Waa!
