Strategy and GTAIV!! 2008 set to be a great year for videogames
StarCraft II - PCStarcraft II is the sequel to Blizzard’s award-winning real-time strategy game StarCraft and they were queuing around the block to see this one at Leipsig in August. The series has a massive and loyal fanbase.
Designed to be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game, StarCraft II will feature the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races, overhauled and re-imagined with Blizzard’s signature approach to game balance. Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game. StarCraft II will also feature a custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously.
Grand Theft Auto IV – Xbox 360, PS3
You couldn’t have missed the hype with Grand Theft Auto IV. It will be the franchises first outing on next-gen consoles and judging by the screenshots and trailers we’re really in for a violent treat this year.
GTA IV will take place in a redesigned Liberty City consisting of five boroughs based on four of the boroughs of New York City (Staten Island is not included), as well as parts of New Jersey. Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is now called Algonquin, Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney (after the Channel Island of the same name). The total area of the map is smaller than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but the new rendition of Liberty City will be more detailed, and larger than any previous individual city in the GTA series
If you're not looking forward to this you need your head examined.
Do you think my list is rubbish and thought the likes of Burnout Paradise (that's just for you Stewart on the forums), Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, Far Cry 2, Rock Band, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning or Spore (I thought about adding this title to the list, but I've lost a bit of interest in it following the numerous delays) should have been there? Or perhaps you even agree with me?
Whatever the case, let's have a bit of a debate/argument in the forums about it. Meanwhile, I'm going into hiding for the rest of the day after putting a LEGO game in a 'Best of' list for the second week running - must be a mid-life crisis.
