4. Geometry Wars Retro Evolved

On to number four, and it's time to pay a visit to the often overlooked Xbox Live Arcade. Granted, HEXUS, like many other gamers, finds Xbox Live Arcade to be swamped with plenty of lacklustre and overpriced titles. But, dig deeper and there's a few diamonds in the rough. On of those, is undoubtedly Geometry Wars Retro Evolved.

This frankly furious title from Bizarre Creations (yes, of Project Gotham fame) is about as hectic as gaming gets. The thumping music and eye-popping visuals are enough to get anyone's heart-rate going and if you've got the skills to master the gameplay, Geometry Wars quickly gets very addictive.

There's a very enjoyable learning curve, you'll usually start off slow and be pleased when you reach a score of merely thousands. Stick to it, and you'll hit the million-point mark and then spend the rest of your life trying to crack the billion-point mark. Endless hours of fun.

Geometry Wars Retro Evolved was an Xbox Live Arcade launch title, and was widely regarded as more enjoyable than some of the retail games available back then. Though Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 has recently been announced, at 400 MS Points (£3.40), this one is still highly recommended.
