Are you a cheat?

“Cheats never prosper” the well-known saying likes to tell us. Not exactly true though is it?

In the world of Xbox live, and ever since the days of the first Ghost Recon, videogame charlatans have darkened the doorsteps of multiplayer lobbies and created an unpleasant experience for those unfortunate enough to have to play with or against them in multiplayer matches.

Anyone who subscribed to the Xbox live service from launch will be familiar with every type of cheat going. We’ve suffered the infuriating ‘standby glitch’, which reached its peak in Halo 2. We’ve bumped into ‘boosters’ in public games time and time again hoping to underhandedly improve their rank or score. We’ve been deliberately lagged out of clan games when we’ve been in the lead. We’ve been shot down time and time again by invisible snipers and we’ve come across hundreds of quitters in our time, the type that simply can’t bear the thought of losing and find it necessary to drop from the game to save their embarrassment.

Whenever a new multiplayer game is released you can guarantee on day one that the cheating crowd will all be there, exploring every nook and cranny of a map in order to find a glitch or something they can exploit in order to give them an advantage.

What motivates these people to cheat and ultimately ruin the experience for others?
