The Actuator reads the small movements that you make when you move your eyes around the screen and then translates them into on-screen commands. At CeBIT, the product was being demonstrated on Unreal Tournament and the final version of the NIA sports - a sleek, metal housing, a USB 2.0 interface and a streamlined headband with carbon interface sensors.
'This year OCZ is showcasing a myriad of ground-breaking products, designed to improve productivity and further immerse consumers in the entertainment experience offered through next generation computing, commented Alex Mei, Executive Vice President and CMO of the OCZ Technology Group. 'Among the new products and solutions we will present to gamers, overclockers, and enthusiasts are the world's fastest memory modules, the most powerful single-rail ESA certified PSU and our mass production Neural Impulse Actuator (NIA) which radically changes the ways that gamers can interact and control elements within games.
At the show we asked OCZ whether the NIA will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 and were told that the company wants to bring it to the each of the platforms and will be looking at hooking up with both Microsoft and Sony after the initial launch.
Whether it will be a fad or whether gamers will take to it and see it as a serious piece of kit remains to be seen.
Unfortunately, we couldn't get any photos of the headband in action because the product wasn't working correctly and needed to be cooled down for a little while but you can check out Nick's first look.
The Neural Impulse Actuator should be the first commercially available product of its kind when it's launched next month.
