One of the most anticipated games of the year, the fantasy role-playing game Fable II, has a number of glitche that Lionhead Studios are working frantically to fix, including a game-breaking bug that halts story progression.

In one of the earlier quests, you're tasked with speaking to a monk in Oakfield. However, if you leave the building during the conversation and then try to return to the monk later in the game to progress the story he won't respond. This game breaking glitch can only be avoided if you listen to the entire conversation before exiting the church.

A quick glance over at the official Fable II forums indicates that there are many bugs within the game, including graphical glitches, quests that can't be completed and game freezes.

Our tip is to save frequently until a patch arrives. We've already been a victim of game freeze and had to replay about an hour's worth of story.

Lionhead has been quick to react to the complaints stating that it is "watching and listening to you, the community, and are looking into all serious issues that are bought to our attention." As well as detailing how to avoid these glitches, the developer is working on a patch that should fix all known issues.

No excuses for the errors though, "Some things slip through the net during development, especially when a game is the size and scope of Fable II," Lionhead noted .

This isn't the one that stops it working on a PC is it? :p
I know it's pretty bad that a top game ships in this state but a) who's actually surprised these days? and b) given how good it is otherwise, I really wouldn't mind replaying an hour of it if I had to.
every single game that gets released has countless problems :|
are they just skipping past ‘testing’ to save money or something?!

Have you any idea how long it would take to test an RPG to the level software gets tested?

If they made an automated testing situation is should be ok, but with so many paths you can take it becomes very difficult to test.

To their credit they had the multiplayer patched BEFORE it came out in the UK (I played it last wed and it patched when I put it in)
These games are just so much more complicated than older ones. Not neccessarily in ways the player would notice, but the data back-ends etc. are.
