UFO: Aftershock - PC

After a pint of Aftershock, Nick Haywood was seeing little green men… and singing songs about goblins, which was worrying. to be honest…

If we go way back into the history of gaming there was a series of strategy games called X_COM, which, not to put too fine a point on it, were simply the best turn based strategy games on the market. The final game X-COM: Apocalypse was a spin off from the main series which focussed on the invasion of earth by alien forces. Then all went quite for a while until UFO: Aftermath appeared which continued the story of the X-COM games but taking onto a global scale with you fighting the alien menace all over the world. Aftermath is a worthy successor to the venerable X-COM series as it brought in RPG elements and more action based combat, doing the series proud.

So now we have UFO: Aftershock, the sequel to Aftermath and the continuation of the more depressing conclusion to Aftermath. You see, Aftermath had an ending whereby the vast majority of life on Earth was wiped out bar a few humans locked away below ground. A strange goo had coated the entire of the Earth’s surface and the surviving humans only make contact with the aliens when it’s too late… UFO: Aftershock follows on from what happens if you agreed to join with the aliens at the end of the last game…
