Multiplayer

This is an area I’ve only had the chance to enjoy over a LAN and I’ve got to say it’s a right laugh. There are three modes available; Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Assault. Deathmatches are less frantic than Quake3 or Unreal Tournament which isn’t surprising, given the size of the maps. This is no bad thing as it gives you time to find a decent weapon before going off frag hunting. Again, the open nature of the game allows you to get creative and do your own thing to win, such as nipping of across the lake to snipe at passers by while you crouch, hidden in the undergrowth.

Assault is competently handled with various character classes coming into play. Support class is the most potent with the ability to build towers complete with mini-guns, erect walls and gates to block the enemy’s path as well as handle heavy weapons and demolition packs. Your team is given multiple goals to achieve or defend as the assault goes on, with the team attacking second having to beat the first team’s time to win.
