Sound

Sound implementation is very well done, with plenty to make you feel as if you’re there. Ambient sounds such as the distant crump of explosions through to the woosh and bang as your rocket turrets unload on the enemy. The sound nicely scrolls with the camera too fading away properly to the sides and rear as you move your viewpoint. It’s also nice to see a developer get the sound balance right too. Set all the sliders on 100% and you can still hear everything you need to. Speech is louder than effects which is louder than the music, which is the way it should be and is one less thing to have to faff about with to be able to really get the most from this game.

While I mention the speech, there has to be tons of dialogue in here for the FMV sequences that progress the story and for the briefings. All of it is very well acted though a little cheesy in places. In game, you may find that the speech cues start to become annoying as you here ‘For the Emperor!’ repeated every time you order a troop to move. Similarly, selecting units has the same result. It might just be me but hearing a Chaos Heretic hiss ‘Your wish?’ every time I want them to do something starts to get a little grating after a while.
