Madagascar – PS2

Nick Haywood thanks his lucky stars for a kids video game arriving in time for the school holidays so SHUT UP AND PLAY THE GAME WHILE I WORK!!!

You know the biggest problem I have with Madagascar? It’s the pronunciation… I’ve always pronounced it as Madagasca… no ‘r’ sound on the end. Now I have to listen to my kids say it with a heavy American accent thanks to the gravelly voice over from the numerous TV ads and trailers… Of course, I have no argument as there is an ‘r’ on the end, but then Slough isn’t pronounced ‘Sluff’ or ‘Slowff’ or even ‘Slo’, so I’m sticking with calling it Madagasca… Anyway, they can’t spell ‘aluminium’, so what do they know?

If you haven’t seen it yet, Madagascar is the latest film from Dreamworks and is already a huge box office hit. Timed to give some relief from stressed out parents faced with 6 long weeks of school holidays, the film follows the story of four zoo-reared animals’ attempts to escape to the wild. When one of the friends goes missing, the others go hunting for him to eventually find themselves on a freight steamer heading for Africa. Much fun and hijinx follow as the four friends find out what life outside of their pampered cages is really like. As you’d expect, the game follows the plot of the film very closely, while expanding on some areas for the sake of gameplay… So how’s it play?
