Once again, Developer Blue Castle Games handles violence in such an over-the-top manner that you can’t fail to chuckle at the myriad of ways you can kill hordes of the undead. Everywhere you look there's a weapon that you can pick up and use to pummel zombies, ranging from a fire extinguisher stuck to a wall, a golf club from a sports shop, or more conventional weapons such as shotguns or chainsaws.

The addition of combo cards, which you unlock as you level up giving you hints as to which two weapons to combine to make a new killing machine, makes these weapons all the more insane. Among the new weapons you can create is the Dynameat, where you stick a piece of dynamite onto a slab of meat with some duct tape,or the Paddlesaw, where you whack a kayak paddle in between two chainsaws to create an awesome and powerful zombie slicer. Like the first game in the series, there’s a lot of entertainment to be had out of mashing up zombies, but in Dead Rising 2 the ante has been upped and there's so much more variety. Indeed, a large part of the game's appeal is experimenting with these different weapons.

In between bouts of Zombrex gathering, you also spend time butchering psychopaths, scaring off looters and rescuing survivors trapped in Fortune City. Prestige Points are earned for everything you do across the city, including finding inventive ways to kill the undead and racking up those kills. The more points you gather the quicker you level up, which in turn makes you stronger and gives you access to new skills. The Prestige Points system works extremely well, encouraging you to stray off the beaten path in search for more bizarre items. We've been motivated and eager to level up just so we can see how much extra carnage Chuck can cause. The more you level up the more powerful you become and the more choice you have at your fingertips.
