Benchmarks: Razer Core with GTX 1080

We alluded to the performance of the Core-housed EVGA GTX 1080 being lower than expected. Our numbers, run multiple times, compare the Razer/Core combination against our regular high-end test PC equipped with the same card. Run at the laptop's native resolution, performance is a fair bit lower. The card's not throttling, the Thunderbolt 3 connection has enough bandwidth, and there appears to be nothing untoward with respect to software (GeForce 375.70 drivers were used on both).

Our only rational explanation is that the dual-core Core i7-7500U chip doesn't have anywhere near the horsepower of a desktop Core i7-6700K running all cores at 4.4GHz. Running other games confirmed that subsystem oomph appears to be the main culprit in stalling performance potential. This is why most gaming laptops feature thirstier, more powerful CPUs.
