Motorola has unveiled a trio of high-end smartphones at CES, including a handset that works as a ‘mini laptop' called Atrix 4G, which is set to hit UK Orange shops in Q2.

The company claims its Atrix handset, which boasts a dual core processor is ‘the world's most powerful smartphone' and is designed to act as a digital hub to create and edit documents and media.

However, this handset's USP is its ability to double as a small laptop when hooked up to its base which is designed to deliver a laptop-esque experience with a bigger screen, keyboard and trackpad plus features like a Firefox 3.6 web browser and Adobe Flash.

The Atrix handset's spec includes a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and the ‘world's first' qHD pentile display for 24-bit colour. It also boasts front and rear-facing cameras and the ability to record in HD, a biometric fingerprint reader and up to 48GB of storage (16GB internal). It runs Android 2.2.

"With Atrix 4G, we are rethinking what a smartphone can be, and literally changing the game with a new device category that combines the power of a laptop with the latest smartphone features and 4G speeds," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T mobility and consumer markets.

There are 2 docks available. The HD Multimedia Dock has 3 USB ports and HDMI port, while the Laptop Dock has an 11.6 inch screen, keyboard, stereo speakers and 8 hours of battery life. Here's an image of the new smartphone.
