Cooler Master - China (Huizhou)

Cooler Master's Huizhou City complex is located in the Guangdong province of China. It's roughly two hours' drive north-east of the large shipping town (and closest airport) of Shenzhen.

It's home to the two large buildings below that make up a substantial part of the company's overall manufacturing capacity.

The first of these buildings has an exterior that's unusual for a factory and certainly more attractive than most. As well as a reception area, this contains a boardroom, along with QA and reliability-testing facilities and some small-scale production facilities such as those for making heat-pipes.

The second of the buildings - and far more typical of a factory in its design - houses the cooler and case assembly lines.

Cooler Master claims to have one of the lowest failure-rates for heat-pipe production in the industry. It says that just five per cent fails quality-assurance testing, compared to an industry average of 20 per cent.

Although our tour did range widely through the company's facilities, some elements of the manufacturing process are regarded as industrial secrets, thus no pictures were allowed.

The size of the buildings we visited beggars belief. Even when standing as far away as possible, we couldn't fit an entire building into the frame of a wide-angle lens on a digital SLR!
