Technology can provide numerous conversation pieces, but few are as intriguing as our buying habits. In particular, it's fascinating to consider why certain brands command a position of strength in our own minds.

My wife's iron - a Morphy Richards Steam Generator - broke down beyond repair the other day and, while she browsed online for a replacement, I noticed a Philips option and automatically spurted out "go for that one, they're good." What brought me to that conclusion? Good question. I don't do a lot of ironing and I've never ever used a Philips iron.

But the seed of trust, obviously, has been planted. I've owned a fair few Philips electronics over the years, they've always been reliable, and when one product did fail, a replacement was sent out under warranty quicker than I could say thanks.

I could name a handful of other brands that I naturally prefer, but let us pass the microphone to you by asking: which electronics brands do you favour? Share your thoughts using the comments facility below.

None really! I always just look at price, specs, reviews and general visuals - it does annoy me when people pay more for something just because of the brand when there is a superior product on offer for less.
With the exception of doing a PC build, I don't necessarily favour one electronics brand over another. I tend to research the market, and choose the one which best matches my requirements. As I said, when it comes to doing a PC build, I do however have my favourites: -

Motherboard - Gigabyte
Memory - G.Skill
PSU - Corsair
Cooling - Noctua / Corsair
GPU - EVGA
SSD - Samsung
HDD - Western Digital

I've always had a good experience in terms of performance and reliability with the above brands, which is why I tend to stick to them. I have tried other brands in the past (with varying satisfaction), but I always tend to gravitate towards these.
I'm ‘guilty’ of this, but only with certain components. For example, I'll only buy memory modules from brands even if they cost slightly more than an equivalent with the same specs from another brand.
