Braben scoops Development Legend Award
HEXUS.gaming recently had the pleasure of interviewing David Braben about his current project, Wallace and Gromit as well as touching on the future about a possible Elite follow up and he has to easily be one of the nicest chaps we’ve met yet.
So naturally we were well chuffed to learn that he’s walked off with the prestigious Development Legend Award at the recent Develop Industry Excellence Awards, held at Kensington's Royal Garden Hotel and attended by 350 members of the development community.
In his 23 years in the industry Braben's contributions include early successes like Elite, Zarch, Virus, Frontier, all of which were acclaimed as masterpieces of game design and programming. More recently, Braben has been extending the worldwide success of the RollerCoaster Tycoon series with Chris Sawyer (also a shareholder in Frontier); creating the innovative Dog's Life on PS2 and forming a successful collaborative partnership with the UK's leading animation studio Aardman Animations to bring Wallace & Gromit to life in videogames.
Braben continues to innovate both creatively and technically and is expected to soon reveal new and exciting plans for the forthcoming next generation consoles, the Xbox 360, PS3 and Revolution.
David commented:
"It was a great honour to receive this award, and many thanks to all those that voted, and to Develop for running the awards. The award is as much for all those unseen people at Frontier and at Marjacq who have worked hard for many years to make this possible, for which I am lucky enough to take this credit. It was surprising how many people in the industry have approached me over the years with tales of how games like Elite and Frontier, have changed their lives, from missed exams to bringing them into the games industry. Long may it continue!"
Yep, we’ll drink to that. Congratulations David!
