Big-screen smartphones and low-cost tablets might be all the rage, but when there's work to be done, can either option really be considered a viable alternative to a proper laptop?
Though sales continue to decline, the industry's latest laptops appear to be better than ever. Thin-and-light designs are readily available, processor innovations continue to raise the bar for performance and battery life, and with convertible form factors, the newest machines are useful in more ways than one.
But if we had to pick out a bugbear with laptop PCs, it would be the niggling issues that are usually present in one form or another. You know what we mean... poor trackpads, real-world battery life that's far short of what's advertised, inferior displays and, on occasion, masses of bloatware.
