Seagate's 7,200rpm 320GiB disk now available in Dell's XPS M1730
Prospective laptop buyers have always faced one tough decision; shall I opt for the higher capacity 5,400rpm drive, or the smaller-but-faster 7,200rpm drive?
At long last, that question is finally becoming a thing of the past. Dell's 17in XPS M1730 laptop is now available with Seagate's 7,200rpm 320GiB hard disk as an optional extra. The drive, complete with 16MiB cache, is available at a cost of $50 more than the 5,400rpm alternative. Though the upgrade is only available in the US at present, it won't be long until it filters through to international markets.
The recent flurry of 7,200rpm 320GiB laptop-sized hard disks from the likes of Hitachi, Fujitsu and others should mean that we'll soon be seeing similar drives on offer from every laptop manufacturer you can think of.
