No sooner had ATI announced the arrival of the Mobility Radeon HD 4800-series GPUs, than MSI shoehorned the HD 4850 part into the gaming-orientated GT727 laptop.

Plush looks helped by the copious use of carbon fibre, which keeps the weight down to a reasonable 3.2kg, the GT727 comes equipped with a 17in WUXGA (1,920x1,200) TFT, Intel Core 2 Duo chip, 4GB DDR3 memory, 320GB SATA drive, Blu-ray drive, HDMI, and the usual tidbits.

It's the first time that MSI has used DDR3 on a gaming notebook, it seems, and a GT725 SKU will also be available, which is identical save for DDR2 support.

The ouch comes in the form of price, with the range-topping model due to cost around $1,700 when launched in a couple of months' time.

Well, at least it will score 10,000+ marks in 3DMark06, which, extrapolating tenuously, should provide a reasonable gaming experience at the panel's native resolution. Full specs here.
