We've been impressed with Acer's Timeline notebooks - largely due to their ultra-slim design and excellent battery life - and the Taiwanese manufacturer has seen fit to extend that functionality to business users with its all-new TravelMate 8000 Timeline series.

The professional notebooks, designed for "no-compromise performance, superior security and trouble-free manageability", feature a choice of ultra-low-voltage (ULV) Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core 2 Solo processors and claim more than eight hours of battery life from a single charge.

Available sizes for the LED backlit display are 13.3in, 14in an 15.6in, with all three offering a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1,366x768 resolution. Solid state drives are available as an option, and each notebook sports an "Acer PowerSmart" key that's said to apply "advanced settings to extend battery life" at the touch of a button.

There's an energy-saving "Acer PowerSmart" adapter that promises to stop using power when a battery becomes fully charged, and "Acer Thermal Comfort" promises to keep the notebook cool enough for extended lap-top use.

A multi-touch trackpad is included as standard, as is Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity, and Acer's built-in fingerprint reader should help prevent unwanted access to sensitive data.

Prices start at £579 for the base model and head upward depending on options.
