AMD's Fusion proposition sounds tasty, but it's even sweeter when its packaged in an ultra-portable system that's as easy on the eye as HP's Pavilion dm1.

Following in the footsteps of Lenovo's ThinkPad X120e, the new HP machine adopts a 1.6GHz dual-core AMD Fusion E-350 APU with integrated Radeon HD 6310M graphics, 3GB of memory and a 320GB hard disk.

All that's housed in a smartly-redesigned chassis that carries an 11.6in LED-backlit 1,366x768 display, HDMI and VGA outputs, three USB ports, Ethernet and a multi-card reader. It's looking like a useful little number, and HP reckons the six-cell battery will keep you going for nine-and-a-half hours. There's no mention of UK availability as yet, but US shoppers will see the Pavilion dm1 on sale next week with prices starting at $449.

Prefer something a little more meaty? HP's got you covered with a refresh of its Envy 17 (pictured above), Pavilion dv6 and Pavilion dv7. All three systems are to be made available with a choice of 2nd Generation Intel Core Processors, a.k.a. Sandy Bridge, and graphics options will be bumped up to include AMD's new Radeon 6000M Series.

The upgraded Pavilions will be available from January 9 with prices starting from $899.99 and $999.99, respectively. No mention of pricing for the refreshed Envy 17 just yet.

bit of a shame there is no USB3, but other than that this notebook looks to be the perfect netbook with its slim 11.6" chassis, decent performance and excellent battery life.
