MSI has announced what it calls the "thinnest and lightest 17-inch gaming notebook", the MSI GS70 Stealth. Despite its slender proportions, it's only 21.6,mm thick, this 17-inch screened notebook contains some of the beefiest mobile processing power available. MSI has used the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M to power the GS70 in addition to other gamer focussed hardware such as a SteelSeries keyboard and 2.1 sound system with integrated subwoofer.

"The extremely lightweight, ultra form factor machine is the pinnacle of portable gaming at the palm of your hands. With designs inspired by the F22 Raptor stealth fighter, the simple yet streamlined brush aluminum chassis is a reflection of speed, aggression, and power."

As you can see above there are two models of the GS70 which differ only in their built-in storage options installed (and price). Some of the details of this new gaming laptop not listed in the tech specs above but also of high importance are;

  • MSI's use of dual-fan thermal cooling to "keep you cool in the heat of battle"
  • MSI used a light but strong aluminium chassis to construct the GS70
  • This laptop also features 'Matrix Multi Display' which enables users to connect up to three independent external monitors "to work, watch and play at the same time"
  • High definition surround sound powered by Sound Blaster Cinema is installed as is a sub-woofer to give the built-in speaker system some oomph.
  • The SteelSeries backlit keyboard can be customised with "thousands of colour combinations" including five pre-sets
  • The Killer DoubleShot networking hardware is said to offer "up to 5x better latency than the competition" which can be important for online gamers.

The nearest competitor to the new MSI GS70 Stealth is Razer's 17-inch Blade Pro which we saw at Computex. The MSI seems to trump that, being lighter, thinner and cheaper (with double the standard installed RAM), however it lacks the Razer's touch screen track pad.

I really dislike MSI's laptops after trying one myself, but I have to admit that this looks gorgeous.
That Razer one was short lived
That price! Looks good, but I have enough strength to carry around a laptop of the heavier kind.
All these gaming laptop makers should drop speakers because they just waste space anyone who is willing to spend a lot on a laptop should have a decent pair of headphones.
I have two pairs of quality headphones, but sometime (e.g. during summer when it is hot, or when I am cleaning the flat), I want to enjoy some music without headphones. And no, I do not want to get external speakers - there is a reason why I am turning to laptops: space.
I have to say that this MSI is quite appealing. If the screen is as good/better than my XPS and keyboard good enough to work on, I may look into it (or it's successor) when I replace upgrade.
